The Psychedelic Society’s event Action for change: Drug Policy Symposium will be providing an opportunity for audiences to learn from experts in the UK.

A special edition, action-focused event, the Drug Policy Symposium is bringing together people on the frontline of drug policy campaigning.

Featuring speakers and organisations including Drug Science, Health Poverty Action, Release, Conservative Drug Policy Reform Group (CDPRG) and Labour Policy Reform Group, the event will explore action-oriented topics such as:

  • How do we push for the rescheduling of psychedelics for medical and therapeutic use?
  • What needs to change in drug policy for us to feel safer in UK nightclubs?
  • How will we start seeing medical cannabis prescribed on the NHS when it’s already legal?
  • How do police tactics need to change in order to stop drug-related crime?
  • How can we tackle outdated drug policy laws?

The Psychedelic Society‘s event host, Mags Houston, commented: “We really want to give individuals the tools and the knowledge to go out there and make a difference themselves.

“With this event, we wanted to make something that was really grassroots level – something that we as the people on the ground can actually get involved with and feel like we are getting to the mission of advocating for evidence-based drug policy.

“So – what can we do to actually help and, and what can we encourage, what change can we make happen? That is the premise of the event.

“With that in mind, not only will we have a full day of talks ending with a panel discussion, but we’ll also have a range of different stalls, where we’ll have different organisations represented within drug policy in the UK.

“There will be resources, flyers, there might be T-shirts and books for sale. We really want to create a space where people feel they can network with drug policy representatives and thought leaders – where people can meet like-minded individuals, both on a social level and personal level.

“It’s about bringing people together in person so that we can start the conversation.”

Speakers at the event include Neil Woods of LEAP UK, Rayyan Zafar, honorary research assistant at Drug Science, Tara Austin, behavioural and brand strategist at CDPRG, Nick Earles and Elliott Rolfe of Mackrell Solicitors, Niamh Eastwood, executive director of Release, Nicole Borgers of Volteface, Jade Proudman founder of Savage Cabbage (Global Ambassador for Charlotte’s Web) and Leonie Schneider co-founder of PsyPAN.

The full-day event will take place in East London cultural hub, Bethnal Green on Sunday, 24 April 2022 from 1:30 PM to 10:45 PM.
