Awakn Life Sciences has announced the opening of its second psychedelic therapy clinic that will be located in London.

Awakn Life Sciences, a biotechnology company with clinical operations developing and delivering psychedelic medicines, has announced it has signed a ten-year lease to open Awakn Clinics London. The London clinic joins Awakn Clinics Bristol to deliver psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy treatments for addiction and other mental health conditions.

The two are the only clinics in the world providing evidence-backed ketamine-assisted psychotherapy for Alcohol Use Disorder.

Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy

The launch of the clinic, which is 5,000 square-foot with eight treatment rooms, is in response to the growing number of people suffering from addiction and other mental health conditions.

Initially, Awakn Clinics London, which will be led by on-site psychiatrists, will deliver ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and will later utilise MDMA therapies when marketing and regulatory authorisation is granted.

Awakn CEO, Anthony Tennyson, said: “A significant majority of people globally have been either directly or indirectly affected by addiction or mental health conditions. Suffering themselves or having family or friends whose lives have been upended by these conditions.

“The opening of Awakn Clinics London marks a significant milestone not only for Awakn, but for the people of London who have been suffering with addiction and mental health conditions.”

Client-centred setting

Awakn has partnered with Onefine_Day, specialists in designing places, in order to offer a warm and welcoming experience to demonstrate first-hand how psychedelics can transform the lives of patients.

The clinic will be following a client-centred design approach, where the space will showcase an evidence-based environmental design focused on patient wellbeing, supporting the right context for effective treatment.

Awakn expects the clinic, which is two of three due to open this year in the UK, to be completed by October, with the grand opening taking place during the fourth quarter of 2021. Awakn Clinics Bristol is due to open in late Q3, with the Manchester clinic to follow on from London’s opening in late Q4.
